Prime Minister Narendra Modi has arrived in Johannesburg, signaling India’s involvement in the G20 Summit that is held in Africa for the very first time. The theme of the summit is “Solidarity, Equality, and Sustainability” in this year’s event.

Among the two-day occasion, PM Modi will be part of the three most important sessions, pointing out India’s concerns and technique to global cooperation. The Prime Minister after his departure said:

“I shall showcase India’s viewpoint at the Summit in accordance with our philosophy of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ and ‘One Earth, One Family, One Future.’”

The trip has a significant political aspect, particularly since it follows closely the African Union’s admission as a permanent G20 member, a landmark achieved during the presidency of India in 2023.

Furthermore, the absence of Chinese President Xi Jinping from the summit this year is likely to draw attention to the changing dynamics in the leadership of the forum.

India’s agenda at the summit will be to promote the Global South's voice, facilitate the dialogue among the developing economies, and bring about the realization of the expectations from the groves of past presidencies, namely, Indonesia, India, and Brazil.
